In the early church, the first requirement often considered for any position of service, was an individual's testimony. Today, many Christians go from one day to the next with little thought given to their testimony. The following characteristics of a testimony can be seen in Acts 15: 19-28.
19 How we handle the Gospel.
20 Keeping ourselves clean in our personal lives.
21 Having a sound doctrine, not one filled with personal interpretation.
22 The authority in our lives, believing it is good to trust us with ministry.
Being considered “leading men among the brethren”.
23 Being trustworthy.
24 Being accountable instead of “working” without authorization or instruction, causing people to be disturbed with our words, or unsettling their souls.
25 Consistency before the Lord, where a unanimous decision to authorize can be given by all the authority represented in our life.
26 A relationship with Christ which has cost us.
27 The words we speak, should be trustworthy enough for the highest authority in our lives to allow us to speak for them.
28 The fruit of our testimony should be this simple: “For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us...”
Our Testimony has more to do with with the lives of others, than with what God has done in us.
